Video: Note: NHK videos will be available on demand until 2 weeks after the end of the Basho. After that, they will be removed from the site. They are usually available for on demand viewing about 1 day after the matches. Note that "highlights" means complete full match video of all daily Makuuchi matches.

JSA Youtube has offered 2 full matches on its Youtube channel. Hopefully they will do this every day. It is a live feed, no commentary, but it gives another perspective on these matches.

1. Terunofuji (Y1w) v Takanosho (M1w) (Terunofuji is on the right

2. Takayasu (K1e) v Kiribayama (M2w) (Takayasu is on the left)

++++

Notable:

Day 3 saw Terunofuji (Y1w) continue to dominate. He won his third consecutive match, and 17th in his last 18. These are still early days, but he is looking ominous. On the Ozeki front, Takakeisho (O1w) lost his third consecutive match, which may indicate that he is not yet recovered from the neck injury he suffered at the hands of today's opponent, Ichinojo (K1w). If that is true, Takakeisho must make the decision either to retire from the Basho to recuperate, accepting a demotion from Ozeki, or keep fighting, risking further injury, Even in a best case scenario health wise, the Ozeki is looking at a very difficult task, needing to win 8 of 12 to protect his rank.

Takayasu (K1e) lost to Kiribayama (M2w) in another of the epic matches they are becoming known for. This was their third consecutive match that has lasted over 3 minutes.

And Kotoeko (M11w) broke his 14 match losing streak with a win over Kagayaki (M13e).

High flying Maegashira (Rank and Filers), who were 8-2 v san'yaku (Top Rankers), were grounded today, losing 4 of their 5 bouts against their betters. However they are still 9-6 against san'yaku for the first three days of the Tournament. After the first 3 Days of the July Basho, they were 5-11.

Quotable:
(sources: Chris Sumo Youtube and Sumo Forum)

1. I figured he'd be as shattered as me, and that's how I hung on for the winning move. (CSY)

Kiribayama (M2w) on his win over Takayasu (K1e). Amazingly, this was the third consecutive match in which the two fought for over 3 minutes.

2. I'm relieved to get the first win, and I still want eight. (CSY)

Ichinojo (K1w) on his 1st Basho win, over Takakeisho (O1w), who is now winless in three tries. It was Ichinojo who injured Takakeisho's neck in the July Basho.

3. I was focused on keeping him from my belt. But it seems I'm getting beaten for power. (CSY))

Takakeisho's take on the match, which may indicate that he is not yet recovered from that injury. If that is true, he must make the decision either to retire from the Basho to recuperate, accepting a demotion from Ozeki, or keep fighting, risk further injury, and even if he does, looking at a very big uphill climb to the 8 wins that would preserve his Ozeki rank.

Nikkansports.com carries the most exhaustive coverage of Sumo that I have seen. It publishes multiple daily articles about the Basho.

All coverage is in Japanese and can be accessed from the Nikkansports Sumo Wrestling News Page. It can be easily (if not well) translated by Google Translate, which can be easily attached to your browser for seamless "translation." It is the next best thing to being able to read Japanese.
