Video: Note: NHK videos will be available on demand until 2 weeks after the end of the Basho. After that, they will be removed from the site. They are usually available for on demand viewing about 1 day after the matches. Note that "highlights" means complete full match video of all daily Makuuchi matches.

JSA Youtube has offered 2 full matches on its Youtube channel. Hopefully they will do this every day. It is a live feed, no commentary, but it gives another perspective on these matches.

1. Terunofuji (Y1w) v Kiribayama (M2w) (Terunofuji is on the right)

2. Ura (M6e) v Daieisho (M4w) (Ura is on the left)

++++

Notable:

The 1st third of the Basho ended with the bookends of the Banzuke (rankings) tied for 1st place with 5-0 records. Yes, Terunofuji (Y1e) and Chiyonokuni (M17e) are tied at the top of the table. It wasn't easy for Terunofuji, as he had to be patient and wait for an opening against previously undefeated Kiribayama (M2w). It took almost 1 minute, 10 seconds for him to finally force the Maegashira out. For the second day in a row both Ozeki won, leaving Shodai (O1e) at 4-1, tied for third place, while Takakeisho (O1w) improved to 2-3. He needs 6 more wins in his final 10 matches to avoid demotion from Ozeki rank.

In injury/illness news, Hokutofuji (M2e--2-3) was forced to withdraw with a knee injury and Hoshoryu (M1e) forfeited his match to Takayasu (K1e) due to tonsillitis. Hoshoryu may be back by the weekend, or may have to withdraw. Takayasu still has yet to actually win a match, but the walk over win was a welcome addition to his score.

Maegashira (Rank and File) have really come crashing down in their results agains san'yaku (Top Rankers), losing all 5 of their matches against their betters (although one was a forfeit). From 8-2 after Day 2, they are now 10-15 after Day 5.

Two rare kimarite (finishing moves) were employed today: backward lean out (Ushiromotare) by Hidenoumi (M9w) in his victory that stopped Kotoeko's (M11w) modest 2 match winning streak that broke a 14 match losing streak, and Ura (M6e) (man of a thousand Kimarite) beating Diaisho with a rear lift out (Okuritsuridashi).

Nikkansports.com carries the most exhaustive coverage of Sumo that I have seen. It publishes multiple daily articles about the Basho.

All coverage is in Japanese and can be accessed from the Nikkansports Sumo Wrestling News Page. It can be easily (if not well) translated by Google Translate, which can be easily attached to your browser for seamless "translation." It is the next best thing to being able to read Japanese.
